- Aperients: Promote intestinal evacuation that is moderate with normal stools and without irritating the digestive system. Gentle laxative effect
- Cathartic Herbs: Work to accelerate or promote defecation (act as a laxative)
- Cholagogues: Stimulate the flow of bile form the Gall Bladder into the intestines, thereby supporting the liver and the gall bladder
- Diaphoretic: Promote perspiration Diuretic Increase the flow of urine and aid in removing excess fluid from cells
- Drastics: Act as an intense laxative, can irritate the intestines, and produce watery faeces
- Emmenagogue: Promote and regulate menstrual flow
- Furanocoumarins: Are potent photosensitizers and a known cause of phytophotodermatitis, they are organic chemical compounds produced by a variety of plants such as celery.
- Hydragogues: Are a type of DRASTIC with the ability to remove large quantities of water from the body via the intestinal tract
